Reviews are about Lubin Pham Caplin (LPC) doing lightweight legal work or providing an initial consultation. Any attorney can do that by writing a strongly worded letter or making a few phone calls to resolve a conflict. However, I don’t see any reviews about a client going through years of a litigation nightmare like I did with them. So I have a very different perspective. I have documentation to support the statements I am making in this review. Hiring them was a serious mistake for me. My case was handled by a very inexperienced attorney who had only recently passed the Bar Exam. His lack of experience proved to be damaging to my case. He was sanctioned by the judge for $1,500. LPC did not inform me about the sanction. I was offered a settlement for $20,000 (which the attorney described as “paltry”). The attorney and an LPC partner did not proofread the settlement offer. It contained the incorrect County and did not include one of the primary causes of action in my case. Because I believed I had been wronged by LPC, I filed a complaint with the State Bar. The State Bar Investigator suggested that I contact a legal malpractice attorney or pursue fee arbitration. Due to financial constraints caused by this case, I chose fee arbitration. I prevailed before the three arbitrators, and I was not required to pay LPC the remaining balance on my bill. I later learned that one of the partners had been disciplined by the California State Bar in connection with a DUI-related matter. This information was publicly available through State Bar Court records. LPC did not disclose this information to me before or during my representation. Had I known, I would not have hired this firm. This fact mattered greatly to me as a client. An internet search will show the public State Bar Court findings related to this partner (State Bar Court of California Review Department, Case #17-C-05405). I also would not have hired a law firm with a partner who had been disciplined by the State Bar for dishonesty. Clients need attorneys they can trust. In my opinion, this reflects poor judgment and undermines confidence in the firm as a whole. What the attorneys at Lubin Pham Caplin did was deeply disappointing to me. They were not upfront about my case, did not manage my expectations, were not transparent about legal strategies, and refused to pursue discovery that I believe could have significantly affected the outcome.
